Still in a Holding Pattern; Grabbing at Straws

Greetings All,

If you read my last post you know that at that point I’d been to my doctor and was anxiously waiting for her get back to me with referrals and a game plan for how I can start to move my transition forward; I’m still waiting for that call, and it’s putting me in strange emotional places.

I’m not very good at sitting quietly waiting for things to happen, so instead of sitting and starring at the phone, I’ve been sitting around with my iPhone in my pocket on ring and vibrate, and I’ve been spending most waking, non-work hours scanning YouTube and Facebook trying to absorb as much transition knowledge and varied approaches as I can from a seemingly endless community of very generous souls either going through the same thing, progressing at different stages, or having already graduated and are now lovingly giving a little (or rather, mostly a lot) back.

That being said, it’s still hard to keep my spirits up and to push past the feeling of isolation.  But there are bright moments with welcome comments and support from online folk and today, right when I was feeling particularly lost, I stumbled across one of Jordan’s early videos outlining her first steps of her transition – this gave me a great boost, at the right time, and concerning the exact steps that are immediately before me, so I’m again briefly energized.  Thanks again Jordan for your clear wisdom and common sense and your willingness to share both.

Now this is supposed to be a transition/diary/blog, and I actually have a few things to report that I’ve been doing while I’m waiting to hear from my GP.  First, I’ve put down in writing the chronological timeline and plan I want to follow:

  1. Follow up with my GP and get my current levels, referrals and her plan for my future.
  2. Get on a proper hormone regime.
  3. Electrolysis – I’ve already started lining up consultations, my first this coming Wednesday!
  4. Come out to family, friends and co-workers.
  5. Prepare myself for full time: hair, makeup, wardrobe additions, voice, voice, voice!!!
  6. Go full time.
  7. Orchiectomy within 2 years – the sooner the better.
  8. Name change – birth certificate, driver’s license and other document changes.
  9. FFS and  tracheal scrape within 5 years – I’m 50 something, so anything I can complete in the next 5 years I’ll do without.
  10. SRS is probably going to be unaffordable for me in a 5-year time table, so barring a miracle I will probably not be getting the full SRS treatment.

A 10 point plan; how nice.

As mentioned above, I’ve started to move ahead this coming week with an electrolysis consultation on Wednesday and getting my ears pierced next week – a small but essential procedure to ever hope to properly accessorize.

Thanks all for now; I feel a lot better.  These post are always extremely therapeutic.

Much Love,

Friday Anne Keyes
