It’s Blogging Time… Just Getting This in Under the Wire!

Hi Everyone,

Wow, what a fast month.  I promised myself that I would publish at least weekly blog posts, but it ain’t quite worked out that way.

Anyway, my transition is progressing at a to be expected snails pace, but I’m still making constant progress.  My electrolysis sessions, although mostly just as painful as ever, do seem to be perceived as getting shorter in time.  A tip for new transitioners, or anyone, starting electrolysis or looking for relief from the pain; I take (on medical advice) 3 Ibuprofen every 6 hours for the 24 hours before the session, and a half an hour before the session I gob (a medical term) on Emla topical anaesthesia cream, available at certain online pharmacies, which, combined with skin becoming acclimated to the process, I am able to tolerate the procedure a little better.

On the medical and HRT front; I’m still waiting for a combination of blood work, HRT letter(s), finding a acceptable, local endocrinologist (that takes my insurance), and waiting to actually start a medically approved HRT regime.  This has been going on for months now, and when I dwell on it too much I become really concerned about the possible danger I am currently in without having any idea about the quality and quantity of the hormones I take and how they are chemically affecting my body, but when I don’t dwell on it, I just worry about it and get a little pissed off.

I finally received my new birth certificate, and as it turns out, I was not born in Kenya!  And, I also have a signed Gender Change form to submit to the DMV for a new license with my correct DOB that will also reflect my gender identity – this I consider great progress.  Unfortunately, since I live in Pennsylvania (not the unfortunate part), and since the Republican state congress and the Republican governor have so far been succeeding in block hundreds of thousands of legally registered voters from casting the constitutionally protected vote without having very limited and specific forms of photo ID, the DMV locations are currently flooded day and night with citizens attempting to get the proper papers to vote.  So, I will probably wait to get my license gender marker changed until after the November elections are past.

I’m starting to become hopeful about my voice; I practice less than my speech pathologist would probably like, but enough that I’m noticing a difference.  And when I recently recorded my voice, I was shocked at how feminine I sounded.

That’s pretty much it for my transition update.  I will try to be a little more timely with my updates.

Oh, and today is my sister’s birthday; Happy Birthday Barb!  I love you!!

Love,
